Long Hill

Long Hill Township is a suburban township in Morris County, New Jersey, bordering Somerset and Union Counties. It encompasses several smaller towns, including the communities of Gillette, Stirling, Millington Meyersville and Homestead Park.   It includes a portion of the Great Swamp National Refuge.  Homes values have traditionally been good as it is part of the train line going into NYC.  Under 10k people live in Long Hill Township.

Landscape

Long Hill is primarily a residential area, with mostly single-family homes with some townhomes/condos and apartment complexes. The homes that you will find range from ranches to colonials and many of the homes in the area are older and well-maintained.  Public sewer, water and gas are widely available but there is a potential for some homes to have septic, oil or well water.  The landscape can be flat or hilly and there are a lot of wooded areas.  Many areas do not have sidewalks but there are trails and parks to explore.

AREA ROADS/MANHATTAN/AIRPORTS

In addition to having a train station the communities of Gillette, Stirling and Millington, there is access to bus routes that take you to NYC.  There is not direct access to any highways but Rte 78 and Rte 287 are close, depending where the home is.  The Garden State Parkway and NJ Turnpike are within close proximity.  Off peak drive time is approximately 50 minutes to NYC and approximately 1 1/5 hours to Philadelphia.  Major airports are Newark International Airport (under 20 miles), John F. Kennedy International Airport (approx. 50 miles).

SCHOOLS

The Long Hill Township School System serves public school students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.  Highly rated Watchung Regional High School serves several towns in Somerset and Morris County including Long Hill Township.

WHAT TO DO

Long Hill offers several parks and recreational areas, including Passaic River County Park, which features a playground and picnic area, as well as a hiking trail along the Passaic River. The Stirling Lake Park features a playground, picnic area, fishing pond and swimming area.  During summer months, there is kayaking, paddle boarding, “Wibit Races”, water slide, crafts, water games, beach volleyball, and sandcastle building at this park.  In the winter, ice skating is available.  Community Events such as middle school lake dances, concerts, and movies on the beach.  There are many trails to explore including Hicks Trails and The Great Swamp Rapture. Golf enthusiasts can also enjoy the Stirling Ridge Golf Course.  Riverside Park, on the south side of Valley Road, offers basketball, bocci, horseshoe and tennis courts, playground, turf field, walking paths, canoe launch, picnic area and outdoor restroom.  Meyersville has the indoor Center Court - a multisport indoor field.  Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the Stirling Ridge Golf Course.

Each town has its own town center with a variety of stores and restaurants.

Fitness fans can check out the Long Hill Township Community Center that offers a fitness room with cardio and strength-training equipment, as well as a gym for pick-up basketball games and a 25-yard pool for lap swimming and recreational swimming.  Pure Energy, Epic Sports, and Grind Time are gyms in Long Hill.  Stirling Ridge Golf Course also offers a fitness center with cardio and strength-training equipment, and personal training services.  Pure Energy is a gym in the nearby town of Warren and Lifetime Fitness is in Berkeley Heights.  There are also yoga studios in nearby towns such as Warren and Summit that offer yoga classes for people of all levels.

HOSPITALS

Area hospitals include Morristown Memorial, Overlook and St. Barnabus and Robert Wood Johnson in Somerville are all rated highly and each have their own specialty they are know for.  Before an emergency occurs, it is best to understand the strengths of each hospital.
