Chatham

Chatham is a charming and affluent town located in Morris County, New Jersey and comprised of Chatham boro and Chatham Township. It is known for its beautiful homes, lush gardens and tree-lined streets, and it is considered one of the best places to live in the state. With a population of around 10,000 residents, Chatham offers a small-town feel with easy access to the amenities of larger cities.

Landscape

Chatham is situated on a hilly terrain, with a mix of residential and commercial areas. The town is characterized by beautiful colonial-style homes and well-manicured lawns, set against a backdrop of lush greenery. The town also boasts several parks and playgrounds, as well as a golf course and a swimming pool.  Chatham is divided into several distinct neighborhoods, each with its own unique character and charm. The downtown area, known as Chatham Boro, is the heart of the town, with a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes. The residential neighborhoods are made up of mostly single-family homes, with a mix of older homes and newer construction. The neighborhoods are safe and quiet, with a strong sense of community.  Colonials make up the bulk of the homes in Chatham but other designs can be found including many custom designs as a result of the many improvements made to homes in the area.

AREA ROADS/ MANHATTAN/ AIRPORTS

In addition to having a train station, there is access to bus routes that take you to NYC as well as access to Rte 78 and 24, depending on what side of town the home resides.  The Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike and Rte 287 are within close proximity.  Off peak drive time is approximately 40 minutes to NYC and approximately 1 1/5 hours to Philadelphia.  Major airports are Newark International Airport (under 20 miles), John F. Kennedy International Airport (approx. 50 miles).

SCHOOLS

Although school selection is very personal and should be researched thoroughly, it should be noted that the township's public school has a strong reputation for academic excellence. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. There is a limited pre-k program in the district.  Additionally, there are several private schools in the area.

  5. Chatham Middle School (grades 6-8)

WHAT TO DO

NYC is a popular destination for day trips. Chatham offers a variety of things to do for residents and visitors alike. The downtown area is home to many shops, restaurants, and cafes, making it a great place for a casual stroll and a bite to eat. The town also has several parks and playgrounds for families to enjoy. The Mall at Short Hills is just a short drive away, offering high-end shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The Fairmont Country Club in Chatham is highly rated with a beautiful golf course, grounds, pool, tennis courts, racquet courts and club house with restaurant.  There are 4 other pools in town, tennis courts, local brewery, rock climbing, ceramic painting and bowling alley in the next town.  It is a short drive to Rt 10 from the borough and Rt 22 from the other end of town.  Each of these roads offers a plethora of activities, stores and restaurants.

 

HOSPITALS

Area hospitals include Morristown Memorial, Overlook and St. Barnabus are all rated highly and each have their own specialty they are know for.  Before an emergency occurs, it is best to understand what those strengths are.
